Perth’s only Aboriginal Radio station and WA’s leading Indigenous music academy have joined forces with the City of Perth to present the inaugural TOO SOLID Music Festival on Australia Day, 26 January.
Noongar Radio and Abmusic, in association with the City of Perth, will host a major celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music in the Supreme Court gardens.
Noongar Radio CEO Michelle White said Perth’s new Noongar community radio station was proud to be a part of the festival.
“Noongar Radio will broadcast live from the festival throughout the day, showcasing the amazing Indigenous talent we have in Western Australia,” Ms White said.
Abmusic event coordinator, Jade Masters said he hoped the event would attract all Australians and tourists.
“This is a celebration of our culture but it is celebration for everyone because after all, we are all Australian,” Mr Masters said.
The day will feature a strong line-up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists performing music across a range of genres including hip-hop, soul, contemporary, funk and traditional Aboriginal dance.
Headlining the TOO SOLID Music Festival will be Contemporary Indigenous act, The Yabu Band and WA hip-hop crew Downsyde. More acts will be announced closer to the date of the Festival.
