Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company will hold its annual free Family Picnic from 5:30 pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, 21 March, as part of their partnership with the City of Subiaco. Meet and yarn with the Yirra Yaakin family within the Theatre Gardens surrounding the Subiaco Arts Centre, where they have been the Company-in-Residence since 2015.

Guests are invited to bring a picnic, try samples of kangaroo stew and damper, and enjoy free ice cream provided by Gather Foods. Entertainment will include live performance by Shakara Walley’s band Last Round Aces featuring playwright Shakara Walley who wrote Songbird, the first play in Yirra Yaakin’s 2024 season. Cast member Kira Feeney will also perform several original songs from the show. The kids will love the free face-painting.

Following the Welcome to Country, Subiaco Mayor David McMullen will speak, followed by Yirra Yaakin’s Artistic Director Maitland Schnaars who will give an overview of the 2024 season, commencing with Songbird that runs from 19 April to 4 May at Subiaco Arts Centre.
