24th October – 30th October 2022
Noongar Radio hosted its “Koolangka Takeover week” for the third time, originally aligning with “Indigenous Literacy Day” which was established to raise awareness and support for literacy within Indigenous communities, particularly in isolated and remote communities.
“Koolangka” in Noongar means children and on the 24th of October was the Start of Noongar Radio’s “Koolangka Takeover Week”. Throughout the week Koolangka took over programs on Noongar Radio and interviewed indigenous authors, business owners, and creatives alike.
Indigenous children’s stories were read, outside broadcasts at schools, lots of fun activities, including projects for WA schools to be involved in.
The project was aimed at primary school children. Each student from the schools who participated had the opportunity to become a radio star!
